"The aroma is almost addictive and the complexity of this Mate is a totally different sensory experience." - Alex P.
Yerba Mate
Bittersweet, toasty herby flavor with nuances of olive leaf and eucalyptus
About this tea
Yerba Mate is an uplifting and energizing herb that is indigenous to the Amazon and is wildly popular throughout parts of South America for its robust flavor. Often thought of as the "tea" of Latin America, Yerba Mate is one of just four botanicals in the Americas that contain caffeine. It has a bittersweet, earthy and mineral flavor with nuances of olive leaf and eucalyptus. Traditional roasting and aging of Yerba Mate creates a pleasant, toasted aroma and ranging complexity. Our loose leaf Yerba Mate tea is certified organic and grown in Brazil.

FAQs
What does ‘Yerba Mate’ mean?
Yerba Mate combines the Spanish word for herb (yerba) with the Native American Guarani word for cup (mate). Put that together and you have the herb of the cup. When South Americans refer to the actual loose leaf Yerba Mate tea drink, they simply say mate.
Does Yerba Mate contain actual tea leaves?
When you buy Yerba Mate you’re not actually buying a product made from tea plants. Yerba Mate is an herb indigenous to South America that contains caffeine levels similar to tea. Once brewed, it looks similar to a black tea, but it’s an herbal tea.
Can I brew multiple infusions from my Yerba Mate tea?
Yes, just like many of our loose leaf teas, Yerba Mate can be steeped several times before being discarded. However, the flavor will continue to weaken after each infusion.
What is the best way to enjoy Yerba Mate?
Yerba Mate is traditionally served in a round gourd with a metal straw called a bombilla which acts as a filter. But you don’t need to buy a bombilla to enjoy drinking Yerba Mate. Simply brew your Yerba Mate the way you would any loose leaf tea and get ready to start your day.
