How to Brew Rishi Iced Teas

Brewing over ice is a simple process, particularly with hot-steep methods. To brew these teas chilled, follow your tea’s individual brewing instructions, but brew it for an extra minute or with slightly less water, and pour that concentrate over ice. This hot-steep method provides a stronger, although more tannic, flavor which holds up well to the slight dilution of the ice.

For a less tannic, more delicate flavor, consider cold-steeping the tea for a few hours or overnight, and serving it fresh over ice. Cold-steep methods do not require extra dilution for proper tea strength, and provide a much more true flavor.

FAQs

While all teas can technically be served chilled, teas with particularly bright and floral flavors tend to perform best with ice. This includes floral green and black teas, as well as dried fruit botanical blends.

If you brew your organic iced tea in large batches, it is best to store it chilled in the fridge, ideally in a glass, ceramic, or porcelain container. Plastic containers can sometimes affect the flavors of teas stored in them.

Teas prepared cold do not “expire” or go bad, but they will begin to taste stale or bitter if left out to sit. To preserve the quality of the tea for longer, it is best to refrigerate brewed tea in a sealed pitcher or jar.

Iced tea varieties do not inherently contain more caffeine, although the longer and more concentrated brewing can result in a stronger cup. Caffeine is more readily extracted at higher temperatures, so brewing at a higher temperature or for a longer period of time will result in a higher concentration of caffeine in your cup. For this reason, cold brew teas can contain less caffeine. If you’re looking for something with little to no caffeine, browse our caffeine-free teas.
