Sticky Rice Oolong

Sticky Rice Oolong is an intoxicating addition to our 2022 Garden Direct line. We begin with a special type of oolong tea produced in the Doi Mae Salong mountainous region in northern Thailand. 

The tea is lightly oxidized and slowly baked to bring out complex layers of creamy sweetness and tropical flowers. During the withering stages and just before rolling we add an herb called Semnostachya menglaensis, commonly referred to as sticky rice herb. It not only lends an incredibly sweet aroma reminiscent of sticky rice, but the herb has long been used in Thai and Chinese herbal medicine where it’s known to have detoxifying and restorative properties. The pairing of the sweet sticky rice aromas and the creamy, subtle floral notes of the oolong tea makes for a stunning combination.
