Description
Origin: Mannong village, Yunnan province, China
Elevation: 1,400-1,850m
Cultivar: Menghai Broad Leaf
Harvest Date: Summer 2009
This vintage tea consists of aged shu Pu'er that is compressed into a cake and packed in traditional bamboo leaf bundles called a tong. This reserve Pu'er tea is released only when it is ready. A deep garnet infusion with a dense, opaque liquor bears a mellow sweetness that drinks remarkably smooth with a rich earth body.
There are two types of Pu'er tea: sheng (raw, green) and shu (ripe, dark). Both originate from a rustic sun-dried green tea called shaiqing. Shu Pu'er is made by pile-fermenting shaiqing teas over a period of 85-120 days. Ancient Pu'er Palace is our top grade of shu Pu'er, and is made using leaves picked from ancient tea trees that are hundreds of years old.
Like fine wine, Pu'er tea has the ability to be aged and released in vintages. Young shu Pu'er teas (2-3 years) typically have an assertive body and bold strength. The body and mouthfeel become richer and more integrated as the shu Pu'er continues to age from 4-8 years.

Ancient Shu Pu'er Cake Vintage 2009 | Special Grade
I've been a Puher fan for many years, usually ordering from Yunan province. When my latest order was
...
slowed by the recent unpleasantness, I found this at Rishi, where I have also shopped for other teas. This was especially wonderful Puher! Thank you, Rishi.

Wonderful full bodied tea!
I've been drinking pu-erh tea for several years now and I've tried many brands. This is the best of
...
the ones I've tried. Very rich mellow flavor, not overly caffeinated but uplifting. Highly recommended!

Bought this after reading Lisa See's
First time buying Pu'er. It's good but a little earthy. I liked Rishi's service and have bought herbal
...
tea from them subsequently. I like the newsletters as well. Rishi will be my only tea source.

gave this 2009 ancient puerh cake to my girlfriend as a gift. It is the first puerh cake we have tried
...
and we are very pleased with it.The contents obviously are more important than the packaging , but was very pleased with the packaging as well. Very happy with this first time purchase from Rishi.Joel

Traditional style Pu'er with a robust, soothing flavor and sweet notes of dark mocha
Rich, full-bodied and smooth with a deep earthy sweetness and notes of cocoa
Robust and invigorating with zesty ginger and hints of citrus
