Yunnan Dong Fang Hong
Yunnan Dong Fang Hong
Orchid, Muscat, multi-florals
and tropical honey nectar
About this tea
Dong Fang Hong, "Eastern Beauty Red," is a newer style of tea that combines oolong and red tea processing methods. The tea leaves of Dong Fang Hong are tumbled and shaken in the yaoqing, which is a bamboo cylinder used to mix and bruise the leaves. This encourages the leaves to begin oxidation and the formation of multi-faceted aromas and flavors of fruits and flowers. This tea has a tropical nectar taste reminiscent of Darjeeling muscatel but with a uniquely strong orchid and rose presence that is coupled with nuances of fermented fruits and honey often associated with classical Eastern Beauty oolong.

Wa Shan Ecological Tea Garden sits in Lincang, on the border with Myanmar (Burma) in southwestern Yunnan. Surrounded by a lush and biodiverse mountainous region, this certified organic tea farm is one we have been working with since 2013. Wa Shan is a famous tea mountain since ancient times named after the Wa ethnic minority who have farmed tea in this region for more than a thousand years.
