About this Product
Kirishima Blend is a single-origin matcha that highlights the regional character of the Kirishima Mountain in southern Japan. Made exclusively from organic first flush tencha, Kirishima Blend is a collaboration project between Rishi buyers, the Nishi Family tea farm, and our tencha milling partners in Shizuoka.
Every year we taste a range of individual cultivar production lots of tencha, in leaf form and test-milled into matcha. We taste to understand the unique performance of each cultivar, which varies from season to season. We then assemble and taste trials of cultivar blends to create the perfect CHO WA (harmony and balance) of amaku (umami), koku (density), awaku (briskness), and shibuku (bitterness). The cultivar components of Kirishima Blend shift from season to season, according to our collaborative effort to create the most balanced and vivid expression of this southern Japanese appellation of origin.

Sift 1 tsp (2g) into a chawan
Add 2.5 oz (75ml) water at 165°F (75°C)
Use a chasen to whip into a smooth, rich foam

Magical Matcha
I've been trying out -- as a special treat -- a variety of different high quality matcha teas from

different sources and providers. I think this one is my favorite so far, although I have to say that one result of all this "research" is that I've fallen in love with matcha in general. This one is so smooth and rich, and it evokes "Kirishima"--a place I've never visited but which I looked up on the map of Japan. Highly recommend this evocative tea.
