Origin: Shree Dwarika Garden, Darjeeling, India Cultivar: Ambari Vegetative 2 & Phoobsering 312 Harvest: March 22, 2023 Elevation: 1310m
Set high in the Himalayas, Darjeeling is regarded as the “Champagne of Tea” due to its one of a kind terroir. Each garden and slope section in Darjeeling carries its own signature terroir, fragrance and flavor characteristics. While cultivar selection is a factor, the real complexity of Darjeeling teas is to be explored in the diversity of terrain in the gardens.
The Shree Dwarika Garden has become renowned for its first flush teas and was planted in 1856 making it one of the oldest in the region. The garden has several clonal varieties and some vintage China bush. It is situated 1,600 meters above sea level in the northernmost region of Darjeeling and is surrounded by a thick forest with the Chota Rangeet river flowing at the bottom. Cold winds blowing from the Kanchenjunga Mountain range lend a special flowery character to the tea. The eagerly anticipated first flush harvest in March-April produces teas with vivacious energy and flavors that capture the essence of spring and this amazing tea region.
Traditional Preparation
Add 3g to a gaiwan, tea cupping set or gongfu teapot (per 150ml). Use 212°F water. Do not rinse this tea. Infuse the 1st brew for 3 minutes.
Repeat several times until the flavor and aroma of the tea dissipates. As the brewing session ensues, increase the infusion time to coax out the body and strength of the final infusions.
