Nishi San's Matcha Kanayamidori
Floral meadow, brisk, Bao Zhong and pine green
About this tea
Kanayamidori is a hybrid variety created by crossbreeding "S-6" and Yabukita cultivars. While it prefers specific soil conditions, Kanayamidori is highly disease resistant. It has excellent sprouting ability and stands out in both appearance and essential plant characteristics of aroma, polyphenol and amino acids density. This variety was developed in Shizuoka Prefecture and officially registered in 1970. As a sencha, Kanayamidori is known for its slightly darker green leaves, a deep-colored brew, and a sweet, milky aroma. Its flavor is rich, full-bodied, and well-balanced. Although many names were considered for this exceptional variety, it was ultimately named "Kanayamidori" in recognition of its cultivation in the Kanaya region, where it became an outstanding sencha variety. Today, it is cultivated for rich and aromatic tencha matcha.

Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic green tea cultivation, the Nishi family has been our strongest partner for organic sencha and organic matcha since 2006. Every year, the Nishi family produces exclusive allocations of organic sencha and organic matcha for us. This Nishi family grows more than a dozen different green tea cultivars all with unique characteristics and nuances that make our blends really stand out. Our long standing relationship with the Nishi family allows us to select the very best micro-lots and fine tune our sencha and matcha blends each year. The Nishi Organic Tea Farm consists of many different gardens secluded in pine and cedar forests of Kirishima Mountain, an active volcano on Kyushu, Island. The densely forested area where these amazing tea farms are located provides a natural buffer zone that protects the tea gardens from industrial pollution.
