About This Tea

Yunnan Purple Buds is a black tea made from a rare purple leaf tea cultivar called Zi Juan, or "Purple Beauty." Zi Juan produces beautiful reddish-purple leaves that are high in anthocyanins, a family of red and blue polyphenols found in fruits like blueberries, pomegranates, grapes and butterfly pea flowers. In recent years, Purple Beauty tea has become popular in China as a unique source of these colorful antioxidant plant pigments, tea catechins and dynamic aroma. Our Purple Buds are grown in a lush and biodiverse mountainous region of Yunnan’s Wa Shan territory bordering Burma, at a certified organic tea farm that we have been working with since 2013. Wa Shan is a famous tea mountain since ancient times, named after the Wa ethnic tribe who have farmed tea in this region for more than a thousand years. This tea has a stylish appearance with a wild aroma and elegant tannin structure.
