Ingredients
- 9 grams of houjicha chai (~2 tsp)
- 4 oz (8T or 1 stick) room-temperature unsalted butter
- Brioche (or favorite bread)
- Toasted crushed hazelnuts
- 2 tbsp honey
Preparation
- Add 9 grams of houjicha chai to a spice grinder; press into a fine powder
- In a bowl, mash together 4 oz softened unsalted butter and powdered tea
- Spoon the butter onto a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap
- Form into a log and wrap well; chill for at least two hours before using
- Toast a piece of Brioche or your favorite bread
- Spread a slice of the compound butter onto the toasted bread
- Sprinkle with toasted crushed hazelnuts and drizzle with honey
Toasted Hazelnuts:
- Preheat oven to 375° F
- In a bowl, add 1 cup unsalted whole hazelnuts and 2t of Dr. Turmeric oolong tea seed oil or your favorite olive oil; toss well
- Toast on a baking sheet for 5-7 mins
- Remove from oven. While hazelnuts are still hot on the baking sheet, use the bottom of a heavy sauté pan, rocking back and forth to split the hazelnuts
Use this compound butter as a replacement for regular butter in your favorite shortbread, gingersnap, or chocolate chip cookie recipes.
