Description
At the Gyokko 玉光 studio in Tokoname, Mr. Hirotaka Umehara creates designs using a potter’s wheel for manufacturing. Mr. Hirotaka Umehara is a second-generation artisan of ceramic wares. Tokoname was the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan and is also famed for Buddhist and Shinto shrine statue artisans. Tokoname is often considered to be the sister city of Yixing. This teapot is crafted without using glaze to highlight natural coloring of the clay. Featuring a clay mesh sasame filter, this type of teapot is suitable for a variety of teas, especially premium sencha and gyokuro. The flat bottom lends itself to allow for infusions using the tracking method when brewing gyokuro. Due to its porous nature, this teapot would be best suited to use for one type of tea from the beginning.
