Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic tea cultivation, the Nishi family has been one of our strongest partners for organic matcha and sencha since 2006. Every year, the Nishi family produces special batches of first flush spring teas for Rishi Tea. Each year we save a few spectacular batches of single-cultivar Tencha batches for aging before stone-milling into Organic Matcha.

Aging Tencha in cold storage for one year before stone milling enhances the overall richness and depth of umami and cultivar characteristics. Aged Matcha is for connoisseurs and those who focus on flavor and terroir.

This year we are proud to release and share four stunning selections of Vintage Matcha from four distinctive cultivars: Saemidori, Kanayamidori, Asanoka and Asatsuyu.

Each was grown for us organically by the Nishi Family in Kirishima, Japan and aged for more than one year in cold storage. These four single-cultivar matcha powders were stone-milled in October 2024, packed into sealed 30-gram bags and air-shipped to our Matcha freezer in the USA. Each order ships directly from the Rishi Tea freezer to your home so you can experience the exquisite quality of each vintage.

Aged Matcha is best enjoyed in the traditional way, prepared in a matcha bowl and whisked in hot water with a bamboo chasen. For matcha purists who savor the unique nuances of flavor and terroir, these matcha selections are for you.
