Menghai County, located in Yunnan Province, China, holds great historical importance in the world of Puer tea. This region is renowned for its traditional craftsmanship of fermentation for Shu Pu'er, a dark and aged variety of Puer tea, as well as its tea cultivation areas that encompass famous and ancient tea mountains.

Menghai County is nestled in the southwestern part of Yunnan Province, which is considered the birthplace of Puer tea. Its favorable geographical location, with high elevation and a unique climate, provides ideal conditions for cultivating tea. The region is surrounded by several famous tea mountains, such as Nannuo Mountain, Bulang Mountain, and Jingmai Mountain, which have a rich tea heritage dating back centuries.

The traditional craftsmanship of fermentation for Shu Pu'er is a distinctive feature of Menghai County. Shu Pu'er is produced through a process called "wo dui," where fermented tea leaves undergo controlled post-fermentation. This method was developed in Menghai and has become synonymous with the production of Shu Pu'er globally. The county's tea artisans have honed their skills over generations, perfecting the art of fermentation to create unique flavors and aromas in Shu Pu'er.
