Nishi San's Matcha Asanoka
Lively, bittersweet, alpine, jade green
About this tea
Asanoka is a hybrid tea variety created by crossing "Yabukita" with "CP1," a Chinese cultivar. It was developed in the Kagoshima Prefecture and was officially registered as a Japanese cultivar in 1996. Asanoka is characterized by its glossy jade green color and well-pigmented stems, which emit a strong, refreshing fragrance that is crisp, a bit floral, and clean. Its flavor profile is smooth, featuring a rich umami taste and a high content of amino acids. The name "Asanoka" means "morning fragrance" and was inspired by its distinctive and refreshing aroma that is unlike other Japanese tea varieties.

Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic green tea cultivation, the Nishi family has been our strongest partner for organic sencha and organic matcha since 2006. Every year, the Nishi family produces exclusive allocations of organic sencha and organic matcha for us. This Nishi family grows more than a dozen different green tea cultivars all with unique characteristics and nuances that make our blends really stand out. Our long standing relationship with the Nishi family allows us to select the very best micro-lots and fine tune our sencha and matcha blends each year. The Nishi Organic Tea Farm consists of many different gardens secluded in pine and cedar forests of Kirishima Mountain, an active volcano on Kyushu, Island. The densely forested area where these amazing tea farms are located provides a natural buffer zone that protects the tea gardens from industrial pollution.
