Nishi San's Matcha Asatsuyu
Creamy, subtle roast, kombu, rich umami, emerald green
About this tea
Asatsuyu is a cultivar selected from native Uji tea varieties. It was officially registered in 1953 after being developed as a seedling selection from exquisite Uji species at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries’ Tea Research Station located in Kanaya, Shizuoka Prefecture. The name “Asatsuyu," which translates to "morning dew," reflects its rich, sweet flavor that resembles gyokuro and its attractive green color. The Asatsuyu cultivar is distinguished by its unique and elegant aroma that is naturally milky and slightly flowery. Its taste is both sweet, umami and refreshing. Asatsuyu showcases a beautiful emerald hue and creates matcha that is deeply tasty with rich green foam.

Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic green tea cultivation, the Nishi family has been our strongest partner for organic sencha and organic matcha since 2006. Every year, the Nishi family produces exclusive allocations of organic sencha and organic matcha for us. This Nishi family grows more than a dozen different green tea cultivars all with unique characteristics and nuances that make our blends really stand out. Our long standing relationship with the Nishi family allows us to select the very best micro-lots and fine tune our sencha and matcha blends each year. The Nishi Organic Tea Farm consists of many different gardens secluded in pine and cedar forests of Kirishima Mountain, an active volcano on Kyushu, Island. The densely forested area where these amazing tea farms are located provides a natural buffer zone that protects the tea gardens from industrial pollution.
