Flavorful Loose Leaf White Teas

Light in flavor, smooth in texture, and sweet in aroma, these organic and blended white teas are seasonally grown and very lightly processed, making for a flavor that is smooth on the palate and delicately nuanced. White varieties are the least oxidized of all of the tea varieties, resulting in a distinct fruitiness and minerality from the natural flavors of the tea leaves. Whether you’re a regular tea drinker or are having your first cup, this tea is definitely a crowd pleaser.

How to Brew White Teas

With their light processing and oxidation, this variety can hold up to longer brewing times than more oxidized options like green teas and black teas. It is important not to use boiling water to brew these teas, however, as water that is too hot can over-extract many bitter or astringent flavors which will affect the flavor of the brew.

In general, we suggest brewing 1-2 tablespoons of tea with 12 ounces of water that has cooled slightly lower than boiling (~185°F), steeping for 3-4 minutes.

FAQs

During tea processing, leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant are dried and oxidized, resulting in their classification of white, green, or black. As a result of lower oxidation, these teas tend to be less bitter, more floral, and sweeter.

Yes, although this variety of tea tends to be lightly caffeinated. More specialized varieties of this tea may feature higher caffeine contents.

Due to the delicate and subtle flavor of the teas, milk or sugar can overpower the flavor of lighter brews. If you enjoy drinking tea with milk or sweeteners, consider brewing your tea slightly stronger.

Loose leaf tea leaves are best stored in an airtight, opaque container. They should be kept in a cool, dark place, as moisture, oxygen, heat, and sunlight can degrade the quality of a tea.
