Description
Try the dewy, creamy Nishi San Shincha Single Cultivar Asatsuyu as an alternative from the same Shincha harvest.
Origin: Nishi San’s Garden, Kirishima Mountain, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan
Cultivar: Saemidori
Harvest: April 22, 2022
Elevation: 380m
Each year the Nishi Family produces a special batch of hand-picked Shincha to celebrate the old-school artisan technique of harvesting by hand.
Shincha literally means “new tea” and is representative of the first spring harvest of the tea bushes as they emerge from winter dormancy. The new teas are fresh and vigorous while being widely celebrated and anticipated by tea lovers.
Each region in Japan sees a slightly different first harvest timing due to the great variance in terrain and the effects of elevation.
This year on Kagoshima Mountain the Nishi Family handpicked exclusively from Saemidori plants to make this single-cultivar Shincha. Saemidori is the cultivar that is first ready to be harvested in spring due to its growth cycle. It comes as no surprise that Saemidori translates to “bright green” when observing the brilliant hue of its infusion. This Shincha produces a vivid, very bright green liquor and has a remarkable and vivacious energy.
Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic tea cultivation, the Nishi Family has captured the vibrancy of spring in this remarkable hand-picked single-cultivar gem.
Every year we launch the Nishi Family’s selection as our first spring Shincha. It might not be the first to market due to being grown in an organic garden and cultivated at a higher elevation, but we think it is worth the wait each year.

The Best!
Incredible tea, and worth every penny! I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Japan for a semester
...
during my junior year of undergrad, and, being the tea enthusiast I am, took every opportunity to seek out the best that I could find. Let me tell you that this tea matches note for note the subtle complexity of the best Shincha I experienced in Japan. Very nostalgic for me, but even if you're merely curious about what Japanese tea has to offer, I can't think of a better opportunity to jump right in to the world of green teas period. Among the very best I've tried in my quest to relive some of my favorite experiences. A+

This shincha is a very bright and fresh offering from Rishi. I love their Nishi Sencha 1st Flush and

go through at least one 250g bag every month. I tried this shincha for kicks and now I am hooked! It is delicate and has a very tender sweet dewy grass aroma, but no bitter taste. It is more delicate than the Nishi Sencha 1st Flush. Highly recommended for Japanese green tea fans.
