This tea is from the rare single-cultivar Da Huang Ya, or “Big Yellow Buds,” grown in Jinggu county, Yunnan. Several years ago we worked with partners to graft the Da Huang Ya cultivar onto older existing rootstock, a technique used in wine cultivation. We’ve been thrilled to see the successful results as the plants spring back with renewed vigor. Da Huang Ya yields large, plump buds that provide a long-lasting sweetness with a unique amino acid profile, creating a nuanced savory character. The infusion is imbued with the most radiant yellow-gold tints. This year’s vintage has subtly sweet notes of floral nectar, honey and wildflowers.
