Phoenix Dancong is a special category of oolong tea produced in Fenghuang “Phoenix” Mountain, a coastal region of Chaozhou, Guangdong celebrated for its mineral-rich soils, foggy climate and rocky landscape. The region has been a famous tea origin for more than 2000 years and is home to diverse tea tree cultivars developed through generations of natural breeding. Many are named after their xiang or “aroma” type. It is said these tea trees mimic the aromas of various flowers, herbs and fruits, like Tuberose, Pomelo, Peaches, Iris & Orchids, honey and almonds without countless other Xiang types in the market. Other Dancong Oolongs are named from farmer’s tales or legendary history. The Ao Fu Hou mother tree is more than 400 years old. It is descendant of an ancient type of Dancong called “Huangzhi Zhi Xiang” 黄枝香 , which is the golden flowers gardenia fragrance type of Dancong. Ao Fu Hou is characterized by its strong flowery fragrance, patience of tannin and long-lasting aftertaste of fruity nectar. It is one of most sought after Dancong these days.
