Shincha Yutaka Midori
Rich & juicy green, umami, light roast, hazelnut, macaron
About This Tea
We selected this mid-steamed sencha from the Chiran area of Kagoshima in the Kyushu Island which is famous for the production of vivid and rich green teas. Yutaka Midori is a full bodied and juicy green sencha with rich flavors of umami and when given a slight roast, the aromas of toasted chestnut and hazelnuts comes up in balance. No matter hot, cold or ice brewed, this tea really delivers the juicy character of Kagoshima’s low-elevation and fertile volcanic soils. Yutaka Midori is the most prominent and widely grown tea cultivar of the Kagoshima region and its name literally means “rich green”. This was a really difficult year for the tea crop and first flush with lots of cold and wet weather patterns to disrupt the spring tea development. This Yutaka Midori was a pleasant surprise and was one of the most outstanding Shincha batches we cupped this year from the early spring harvest in Kyushu.
