About this tea

White Peony King is the Grand Cru of White Peony tea made with the spring season’s first growth—one leaf and one bud hand-plucked from an exclusive tea bush cultivar selected for the top class of Fuding white tea. The tea bush cultivar Fuding Da Hao (Big White) must be harvested during brief periods of sunshine amid the generally foggy coastal spring season air to produce such a stellar tea. The tender leaf and bud plucks exude a fresh and vigorous energy and are covered with silvery-white trichomes, showcasing the classic appearance of downy white tea. This 2024 vintage of White Peony King shows a precious golden infusion with a rich taste and a silky, smooth body. The oceanic umami and sweet aftertaste are long lasting with aromas of wildflowers, complex but soft spice notes and sublime nuances only found in this region’s early spring white tea.

The coastal town of Fuding is located in China's Fujian province, a famous white tea producing region situated in mist-enshrouded mountainsides that overlook an estuary flowing to the sea. The savory quality in the white teas grown in Fuding is attributed to the maritime air and oceanic minerals and basalt content in the rich soil of these gardens.
